Alexia Jowers

Alexia Jowers received her Bachelor of Flute Performance and Music Education from the University of Miami in 1993. She attended the University of Miami on a full scholarship and performed in several top UM ensembles, including the Symphony Orchestra for the School of Music. She orchestrated two professional-level recitals while attending, performed on many graduate recitals, and recorded in studio settings for numerous graduate engineering/composition projects.

While in Miami, Alexia performed in a professional capacity with the Treasure Coast Symphony, West Palm Beach Symphony, Ballet Florida, Deerfield Beach CVE Orchestra and other local orchestras. She also performed for weddings/social events with the Atlantic Chamber Players. Some noteworthy venues included: Vizcaya Gardens, the Biltmore Hotel, and the Miami Art Museum. Alexia also attended the Colorado College Summer Music Conservatory during the summers of 1992-1993, and was chosen to perform the Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 with the Colorado College Conservatory Orchestra in 1992.

Alexia has studied privately with the following internationally known flutists: Jeani Muhonen-Foster, Christine Nield-Capoti, and Raymond Guiot. Master Class Artists she has been selected to perform for include: Sir James Galway, Carol Wincenc, Nestor Torres, Marc Grauwels, Goran Marcusson, and Stephen Preston.

After graduation, Alexia spent 4 years in Paris, France. She regularly performed as a soloist for the Hotel Georges V, and also performed with other chamber musicians at EuroDisney, the American Church in Paris, Parc de la Villette, la Salle Cortot, and in the famous Musée d'Orsay. While in Paris , Alexia was selected as one of only 9 Americans in a global competition to perform for the annual Jean-Pierre Rampal Competition (1993). Other highlights while in France include performing in a flute/guitar duo at the Rambouillet Music Festival, and performing in monthly musicales for the Metiss'Age Festival. For three consecutive years, (2005-2007), Alexia has been selected to attend the Wildacres Flute Retreat in Wildacres, North Carolina for an intense week of masterclasses and performances.

Currently, Alexia performs as principal flute with the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra, and was chosen this past season to perform twice as a soloist with the orchestra. Other performance responsibilities include Disney's Intimate Weddings & special events, Orlando Symphony, Flagler Symphony, and the Brevard Symphony Orchestra.

Performance Philosophy

My college years were highly demanding, both of my practice time, and of my focused attention to an extremely high level of performance at multiple venues every week. This focus brought me to a philosophy regarding chamber ensemble playing that I believe is hard to find once on the outside of the collegiate "bubble", so to speak.

I believe that every event and audience merits a professional top-notch performance, with extraordinary musicians in every ensemble I send out. I work with musicians I have developed a relationship with, that I trust, and most importantly for you, that I KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT have the talent and professionalism to give you the experience you deserve.
